Committed to the next generation of rodeo, the Calgary Stampede will host a tour for Novice Saddle Bronc and Novice Bareback competitors, with nine stops throughout the rodeo season, giving novice contestants the opportunity to earn a spot to compete in the novice events at the 2023 Calgary Stampede Rodeo.
The top six Junior Steer Riders in the Canadian Professional Rodeo standings as of June 25 will qualify for the 2023 Calgary Stampede.

If entries exceed capacity it is at the discretion of The Calgary Stampede to whom will be drawn out.
Open positions will be filled at The Calgary Stampede’s discretion
Novice Events & Jr. Steer Riding
Novice Bareback Riding, Novice Saddle Bronc Riding and Jr. Steer Riding will take place respectively during the Calgary Stampede Rodeo, between July 7-15 as the 3rd event.
All competitors will be expected to attend the contestant meeting — time and location TBD
Free meal for competitor and guest at contestant hosting area before the Rodeo each day
Qualified contestants will be contact by the Calgary Stampede.
Novice Bareback Riding will consist of 8 competitors on July 7-8, with the finals on July 9 featuring the top 4 competitors in the average from the first two rounds.
Novice Saddle Bronc Riding will consist of 8 competitors on July 10-11, with the finals on July 12 featuring the top 4 competitors in the average from the first two rounds.
Jr. Steer Riding will consist of 8 competitors on July 13-14, with the finals on July 15 featuring the top 4 competitors in the average from the first two rounds.
Contestants will advance to the Championship Round based on the 2 long round average
Champions in each event will be decided by a 3 head average

Calgary Stampede reserves the right to withdraw opportunity for any contestant.
The following will be invited to compete in each respective Novice Event during the 2023 Calgary Stampede Rodeo:
2022 National High School Rodeo Association Champion
2022 National High School Rodeo Association Reserve Champion
Top 6 from the 2023 Calgary Stampede Novice Tour
Each spot in each respective event will drop down until filled. If not filled by May 1, the position will be filled at the discretion of the Calgary Stampede.
In order to compete:
Contestants must be 16 years of age as of January 1, 2023 and under 21 years of age as of December 31, 2022.
Contestants cannot hold full regular memberships in any event in the PRCA or CPRA.
Contestants must be a current card holding member of an amateur rodeo association, or a permit holder in the CPRA or PRCA.
Contestants cannot qualify through participation points (25 per ride) only. Competitors must record a minimum of two qualified rides in The Calgary Stampede Novice Tour to be eligible to compete at The Calgary Stampede.
Stampede Officials shall in their absolute discretion have the right at any time to add or adjust rules or qualifications in order to clarify or address a circumstance or action not previously outlined.

2022 National Junior High School Rodeo Champion
