At the Working Cow Horse Spectacular, top NRCHA riders and horses will showcase speed, courage & finesse while demonstrating their craftsmanship in rein and fence work. The competition is based on the pair's ability to demonstrate controlled rein work and disciplined cow work with the highest degree of difficulty and best form to earn the highest scores.

Join us at the Nutrien Western Events Centre to witness the ultimate display of western riding skills, cow sense and horsemanship. Don't miss the chance to watch some of the best riders and horses in the business compete for the title of Cow Horse Spectacular champion.

This is an NRCHA sanctioned event.

Entries Information

The Calgary Stampede Working Cow Horse Spectacular is a qualified event. Competitors with the highest aggregate score from two of the four qualifier shows will be invited to the Calgary Stampede Working Cow Horse Spectacular.

A rider can go to any of the four qualifier shows, however only their top two show scores will be included in the aggregate and used to qualify. Highest scores will fill the rider limit in each class at the Calgary Stampede Working Cow Horse Spectacular.

Ties that occur in a class at the Ponoka Qualifier will be decided on the competitor whose score is greater based on the cow work score of the tied competitors.

The four qualifying shows will be in Ponoka May 16- 19 and June 13- 16. For more information on the qualifiers please visit the “qualifiers” tab on our event page.

Entries open: June 18 @ 9:00 AM

Entries close: June 25 @ 4:00 PM

Those who qualify will be notified with the entry link.

Qualifying Numbers per class:

Open Hackamore – 7 competitors to qualify.

Open Bridle – 10 competitors to qualify.

Non-pro Bridle – 12 competitors to qualify.

Non-pro Boxing – 10 competitors to qualify.

Youth Boxing – 6 competitors to qualify.

Qualifiers

Finalists for the Calgary Stampede Cow Horse Spectacular will be invited based on qualifying shows hosted by the Alberta Stock Horse Association.

Qualifying shows include:

May 16-19, 2024 - Ponoka AB.
June 13-16, 2024 - Ponoka AB.

Anyone entering Canada must have a valid Passport.

Please note - Contestants are required to be aware of, and follow, all current Canadian government health guidelines, including vaccination and border requirements at the time of crossing. More information can be found here.

Non-residents of Canada will be subject to a 15% withholding tax on all prize monies awarded as required by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Non-residents of Canada may apply to the CRA to have the 15% withholding tax returned. To file a claim with the CRA, complete and submit the following information:

Transportation Of Animals & Importing Livestock

If transporting animals into Canada, you must ensure all requirements are met to bring animals into Canada for competition.

Biosecurity Protocols
We take the health and safety of your animals very seriously at the Calgary Stampede. As such, for 2024, a mandatory submission of a Biosecurity Form for all exhibitors is required.
