Aggie Days Art Contest

2010 Art ContestWinner

Design Guidelines and Rules:

For 25 years, the Agriculture Education Committee of the Calgary Stampede has promoted and educated Calgary and district youth on the value and importance of agriculture in everyday life. Agriculture is a multifaceted industry that touches our daily lives in the form of food, agri-food products, clothing and pharmaceuticals.  We believe that agriculture is the foundation of Alberta, and that the youth are the foundation of Alberta’s future.

Once again, thanks to the support of Bayer CropScience, we will be holding an art contest and the winning design will be featured on the cover of the Aggie Days publication that is distributed each spring. This Calgary Herald insert is an award winning publication that serves as an informative and educational tool for the annual Aggie Days event. The winning student will receive $200 and their school will receive a SMART Board or Promethean ACTIV Board System valued at approximately $5,000.

The guidelines and rules are as follows:

• This contest is open to all full-time elementary students in Grades 1 to 6 who are a resident of Alberta, and are enrolled in a Calgary or surrounding area school division for the 2009/2010 school year.

• The final image must be completed on an 8 1/2 inches wide by 11 inches tall page and must depict the theme ‘Alberta Agriculture’.

• Each entry must be accompanied by a signed 2010 Aggie Days Art Contest Entry Form.  Please make sure artwork is labeled on the back only.

• Artwork must be entirely the student’s original work and completed independently. Teamwork will not be considered. No photo artwork will be accepted.

• When creating your design, make sure that all lines and colours are well defined. You can use a range of shades and tones, but remember that very light drawings and pale colours may not reproduce well in print.  If you want to use lighter colours, such as yellow or pale shades of pink, green, blue, etc, it might be a good idea to outline them with bold and strong lines.

• The submission deadline is Friday, February 5, 2010.  Artwork may be submitted on disk in high resolution (300dpi) digital format or the original artwork can be sent directly to the Calgary Herald.

• The Calgary Herald and the Calgary Stampede exercise the right to exhibit or publish the works of art and the names of students, in print, voice or visual media.

• Selected artwork will be exhibited March 17 through 21, 2010 during Aggie Days and will become the property of the Calgary Stampede.  No artwork will be returned.

• Decisions of the contest judges are final and no substitutions will be available. The prize is not redeemable in cash and must be accepted as awarded. The winning student will be awarded the prize for his/her school and the prize will become property of that school. Please note that installation of board is not included in prize package.

• The Calgary Stampede reserves the right to withdraw or terminate this contest at any time without prior notice.
