Often compared to watching an intricate dance, the pure athleticism and instinct of a skilled cutting horse is breathtaking to behold. Beginning as a competition between working cowboys for bragging rights as to who had the most “cowy” horse, the cutting horse competition has evolved into one of the largest and most exciting equine events in North America. In the contest arena, the art of the cutting horse comes alive in a classic test of intelligence, training, breeding and skill. In competition, the cutting horse and rider must work together as a team in demonstrating their cattle handling skills. The Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Competition is a participating event in the MERCURIA/National Cutting Horse Association World Series of Cutting, bringing together the most skilled horses and riders from across Canada and the United States as they vie for berths in the MERCURIA/NCHA World Finals.

NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER MONDAY, JUNE 17, 2013 AT 4:00 pm POSTMARKED OR OTHERWISE.

The completed entry form must be received in the Agriculture Entries Office by the listed date. All entries must be accompanied with copies of the NCHA membership cards of both owner and rider, as well as a copy of the registration papers for all registered horses, as per NCHA Standing Rules 2 and 3. If entered online, a copy of the papers must be sent to the entries office by mail, fax or electronically. Entries not complying with the requirements will be rejected. The entry charge portion of the fee will be allocated to prize money (GST not applicable).

Telephone entries will not be accepted. Faxed and online entries will be accepted if accompanied by credit card information. U.S. ENTRIES MUST BE PAID BY CREDIT CARD OR MONEY ORDER IN CANADIAN FUNDS.

NCHA Classification Rules apply (NCHA Standing Rule 8).

Entries must be received by Monday, June 17, 2013 at 4:00 pm, all entry fees are payable in Canadian Funds.

Score of first go round will determine advancement to the Finals. Prize money and awards will be determined solely by scores in the Finals round.

Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Buckles will be awarded to the Champion of the Open and Non Pro classes.

NCHA Bronze trophy will be awarded to Champion of the Open and Non Pro classes.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Open & Non Pro Entries:

Special attention is called to the following:
• General Rules
• Health Regulations
• IAFE code of ethics
NCHA Rules and Regulations shall apply.
The Cutting Horse Competition will consist of ONE GO ROUND with a FINAL. 25% of the entries in the Open and Non Pro classes to the Finals with a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve (plus ties).
The top 50% of the Finalists will receive a Cheque based on the NCHA unit payout system, all Finalists to receive base pay of 2x the entry fee. All money will be paid in the Finals.
There will be 4 head of cattle per cut in the Open and Non Pro First go round and the Finals.
In alignment with all MERCURIA/NCHA World Series events, all herds to be used in the performance finals on Monday, July 8 will be pre-settled in advance of the start time, in the order they will be used in competition. There will only be one herd used for the finals of each class, regardless of the number of finalists.
The performance finals will incorporate live commentary and music during competition.
The horse, rider and owner must be declared at the time of entry, as per NCHA Standing Rules 2 and 3. NCHA Non-Professional Rules apply.
Open Riders may ride two horses. Non Pro Riders are limited to one horse.
NCHA Adjusted Monitor System (3 Judges) will be followed,
The Draw will be made on Monday, July 3, 2013 according to the NCHA Rules. The draw order will be available on line or call the Agriculture Administration Office at (403) 261-3133 after 4 p.m. on July 3, 2012.
The Calgary Stampede dress code (long sleeve shirt with full collar and cowboy hat) will be enforced for anyone in any part of the show arena and loping area.
All disputes will be dealt with by the Western Performance Horse Committee and the Committee’s decision in all maters shall be final.
If an entry is cancelled, all fees will be forfeited. The only exceptions permitted are: A) In the case of a disabling injury to the horse, the contestant must furnish a certificate form a qualified Veterinarian declaring the horse disabled and unable to compete. Such certificate must be in the hands of the Show Management prior to the start of the competition. B) In the case of a disabling injury to the rider, or serious sickness or death in his/her family, Show Management must be advised prior to the start of the competition.

NCHA/CCHA Rule #35 will be strictly enforced.

**Please note there will be NO unauthorized persons allowed in the hitching ring/loping area of the Saddledome. Exhibitor Badges must be visible at all times, no exceptions will be made. Western Dress required in all areas**

Youth Cutting Showcase:

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR SENIOR YOUTH :

For 2013, the Calgary Stampede will NOT have an official NCHA approved cutting. Instead, the TOP 5 SENIOR YOUTH from the Saturday, July 6, 2013 Youth Class at the Pre Stampede Cutting event at Silver Slate Arena WILL BE INVITED TO COMPETE in a special Youth Cutting Showcase following the MERCURIA/NCHA World Series Finals in the Saddledome on Monday, July 8, 2013.

Youth Showcase participants will receive the Bill Collins Youth Excellence Scholarships.

1st: $1500
2nd: $1000
3rd: $750
4th: $500
5th: $500

Champion & Reserve Buckles will also be given.

Only the scores from the Stampede final round will be used to determine the scholarship awards.

NO entry fee, cattle fee, or office fee will be charged.

Each competitor must follow the following general guidelines of the cutting competition as well as the specific guidelines governing the youth competition:

The youth must compete on the same horse as they rode in the qualifying event.
There will be a minimum of four head of used cattle per competitor.
Should any of the top 5 invited youth be unable to compete in the the Finals on July 8, the Calgary Stampede reserves the right to invite the next highest placing youth from the qualifying event to fill the roster.
Please note that an executed waiver is required for complete entry. If applicant is under 18 years of age, the waiver must be signed by a guardian.

CALGARY STAMPEDE:

Entry to Stampede Park is via the Nat Christie Gate off 25th Avenue SE. Competitors will be staged in the Saddledome Lot as per previous years. Please follow the instructions of the parking attendant. There will be no stalling available on Stampede Park.

PARKING INFORMATION:

Daily parking passes for the Saddledome parking lot will be provided to competitors. Please not there is no overnight parking or stalling on Stampede Park. Competitors are asked not to arrive anymore than three hours before the posted event start time and must vacate the parking area within two hours following the competition.

STAMPEDE ENTRY:

An official photo accreditation badge will be needed by all those granted complimentary Park access for the 2013 Stampede. In addition to granting access to Stampede Park, the photo accreditation will indicate which restricted areas each person can enter based on individual requirements. The Agriculture Accreditation badge gives you access to the Grandstand Rush areas for the Rodeo, Chuckwagons, and Evening Show. The badge must be purchased on the entry application for a fee of $30.00 (G.S.T. included). These badges are a privilege of the exhibitors, and will be limited. Exhibitors are responsible for lost or forgotten badges.
