The 2012 Dairy Classic Championship Show will be webcast!

The show will be held in the Agriculture Barns and is proud to once again be offering the Youth Judging Clinic in addition to the breed shows.

Admission for all of the events is complimentary.

In keeping up with the growing interests of the Red and White Holsteins the Calgary Stampede Dairy Classic Championship Show will once again be awarding a Junior and Reserve Junior Champion & a Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Red and White Holstein selected from animals shown in the Holstein classes. The top two placing Red and White Holsteins from each class will compete for these awards prior to the selection of the Holstein Champions.

The Calgary Stampede Dairy Classic requires a licence to ship milk. The organizing committee would like to remind you that all equipment brought to and used at the show needs to meet the same standards that are maintained on your farms. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

18. Breeders Herd - a Breeders Herd will consist of a group of three animals in which the exhibitor must have bred all three animals and own at least one of the group. The registration certificate for at least one animal must show the exhibitor as both breeder and as owner - in both cases as an individual or in partnership. In other words, the exhibitor may be a joint owner of an animal. No Entry Fee. Ribbons Only.
19. Progeny of Dam - Two animals. Dam may be named at the time of entry. Ribbons only. No entry fee.

SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES No entry fee. Showmanship is open to anyone exhibiting or working with dairy cattle. Contestants will be judged according on the following criteria: Showing of animal - 60 points Condition of animal - 30 points Appearance of exhibitor - 10 points Showmanship entries can be submitted at the time of cattle entry, or at the Show Office by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. The exhibitors name and age must be listed on the Entry Form. Animal of any age may be shown.
20. Pee-Wee Showmanship - Less than 8 years of age as of January 1st, 2012.
21. Junior Showmanship - Ages 8 to 12 years as of January 1st, 2012.
22. Intermediate Showmanship - Ages 13 to 17 years as of January 1st, 2012.
23. Senior Showmanship - Ages 18 to 21 years as of January 1st, 2012.

YOUTH JUDGING CLINIC - presented by BFL Canada Insurance Services Inc. Thursday, March 22, 2012 - 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm The Calgary Stampede Dairy Classic Committee is pleased to offer an enhanced youth judging workshop at this year's show. The workshop is open to all youth and is a great chance to improve your judging skills before this years multi-judging competitions begin. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to judge a class of top quality milking cows, a class of dairy heifers and how to give reasons with instruction from some of the best dairy people and judges in the industry. This clinic will start in the International Room at 5:30 pm and then move down to the North Barn both venues are located in the Agriculture Building at Stampede Park. HERDSMAN COMPETITION No entry fee. The herdsman competition will automatically be entered if five head or more are exhibited. Exhibitors with less than five head may enter if they join with another exhibitor to make up five head or more. (Please indicate on entry form if this is the case.) Presented for the best display, (not including quality of cattle exhibited) on the following basis: General neatness of exhibit area and grooming of animals - 50 points Courtesy of attendants and knowledge of information - 30 points Basic decoration and quality of display (frivolous decorations will not be considered) - 20 points
The displays will be judged Thursday, March 22 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Friday, March 23 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Saturday, March 24 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Announcement and presentation of the Herdsman award will be made at the Exhibitor Awards Banquet on Saturday, March 24. Prize Money: 1st - $250, 2nd - $150, 3rd - $100

Exhibitors cancelling their entries after Monday, March 9, 2012 shall forfeit their entry fees, except on producing a certificate of disability from a qualified veterinarian.

Youth Judging Clinic: The cost is only $10 and includes a beef on a bun. A special price of $5.00 is available for parents and chaperones. One parking pass per vehicle will be issued at no additional charge. Registration deadline is Monday, March 5, 2012. Click here for registration form.

Prize Money & Awards + View Details

Each breed must show separately with at least 35 head and 5 exhibitors to be eligible for prize money.

1. Any prize may be withheld when the judges are of the opinion that there is not sufficient merit in the entry exhibited to justify the award.
2. Should a prize be found to have been obtained or awarded by error on the part of the judges, clerk, or director in charge, or by false evidence or misrepresentation, or a violation of any of the rules, the money will be withheld or if paid in error, same must be refunded.
3. More than one prize money may be paid to any one exhibitor in any one class. Please refer to individual classes.
4. Prize money will be paid to 10th place in accordance with the listed scales-ribbons to 3rd.

A prize will be presented to each participant in the PeeWee division, prize money will not be paid out.

Premier Exhibitor Award:
The Premier Exhibitor Award will be presented to the individual, partnership or institution having the most points won in the individual classes, for which prize money is offered, but not more than ten animals owned by the exhibitor/breeding unit. In the case of jointly owned animals points will be awarded to the joint owner who exhibits the animal within his/her breeding unit. 4-H entries are not eligible for points if more than 10 head from the farm unit are entered. Points will be awarded as follows:

Premier Breeder Award:
The Premier Breeder Award will be presented to the individual, partnership or institution with the most points won in the individual classes for which prize money is offered, by not more than 10 animals bred but not necessarily owned by the breeder. In the case of jointly bred animals, the prefix of the animal will be followed in awarding the points. Points will be awarded as follows:

Regulations:: RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR SHOWING DAIRY CATTLE

The following practices or procedures are unacceptable in the show ring of registered dairy cattle:

1. Misrepresenting the age or ownership of an animal.
2. Filling an animal's rumen unnaturally with liquid (tubing).
3. Balancing the udder by any means other than by leaving naturally produced milk in any or all quarters.
4. Treating the udder internally with an irritant, counter-irritant, or any other substance to temporarily improve confirmation or produce unnatural animation.
5. Treating the udder externally with an irritant, counter-irritant, or any other substance to temporarily improve conformation or produce unnatural animation. (Allowable practices include sealing and setting teats, and the use of external anti-inflammatory substances for the well-being of the animal).
6. Roping udders and the use of objects to physically improve definition of the suspensory center alignment.
7. Administering anaesthesia (blocking tails) and/or applying and irritant either externally or internally to the perineal (rectum and vagina) area.
8. Inserting foreign material/articles under the skin, into the topline (including hair not attached to its own hair follicle) or on the feet. Administration of acceptable medications, and false switches and tails is permitted.
9. Performing surgery of any kind to change the natural contour of appearance of the animals body, hide or hair. Not included is removal of warts, teats and horns, clipping and dressing of the hair and trimming of hooves.
10. Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors, or other conduct detrimental to the breed or show.
11. Wrapping hocks or draining fluid from the hocks unless authorized by a veterinarian at the show.

Where special livestock prizes are included in the prize list and no entry fee is charged, animals must have been entered and shown in a regular class if there is such a class for such and entry. Single entry only in the group classes and each animal in the group must have been exhibited in one breeding class. In the Progeny of Dam class, ownership by exhibitor shall not be required unless otherwise stated.
All exhibits must be owned and registered as purebreds in the name of the exhibitor prior to the final deadline date for the registration papers. All animals must be legibly tattooed if applicable. Exhibitors must produce the actual certificate of registration in his or her name to the Calgary Stampede Agriculture Show Office or a representative of the breed association when asked to verify the identification of each animal. NOTE: A facsimile will also be accepted provided it is sent directly from the breed office or Canadian National Livestock Records and is received 24 hours prior to the beginning of the show.

Bulk Tank: In order to prevent antibiotic contamination of the milk, testing will remain in effect. Samples will be taken from each container of milk prior to being put into the bulk tank. The fee charged to exhibitors for contaminated milk will be based on the value of the milk in the tank at the time of the contamination test. The fee for testing the milk will be charged to the exhibitor. The Dairy Committee of the Calgary Stampede will have the final decision on any violations.
Judging Criteria:: 1. Exhibitors must ascertain at what time judging will take place, and no complaint or appeal based upon the statement that the judge(s) have overlooked exhibits will be considered by the Calgary Stampede.
2. No person shall be permitted in the judging rings during the time of judging, except the Directors in charge, judge(s), livestock superintendents and their assistants, persons in charge of animals and members of the press.
3. Any person who shall attempt to interfere with or influence the judges while in the discharge of their duties, or who shall at any time in Stampede Park, or within his hearing, in consequence of any award made by him/her, shall forfeit his/her right to any prizes to which he/she might otherwise be entitled, and may be excluded from exhibiting from one of more years thereafter. Judges are required to report any breach of this rule.

General Information + View Details

PASSES
Each breeding unit will be provided with one free parking pass after registration papers and completed information are presented at the Show Office. Additional passes can be purchased for $40.00 and are also available at the Show Office. A list of Dairy Classic Exhibitors will be distributed to Stampede Parking attendants at each gate. Providing your name to the attendants when you first arrive will allow you access to the park to unload your animals and register at the Show Office. Your multi-day parking pass is valid from March 20 through to March 24. If you are not moving your animals out on Saturday night, please ask at the Show Office for an additional one day pass to allow you access to Stampede Park on Sunday morning.

STALLING
Stalling will take place in the South part of the barn. Space will be assigned to each exhibitor for feed & tack. Please indicate any stalling preferences on the entry form. Shavings will be provided courtesy of Lil Shaver. Straw will be provided for first bedding only.

CLIPPING AND GROOMING
Allotted as part of the exhibit area. This space will be judged as part of the Herdsman Competition.

PARKING
Exhibitors will have access to Lot 2 (Northeast of the Ag Building between the Rodeo Office and the Saddledome) to park their vehicles. Trailers are to be parked in the "S" lot (Agriculture Exhibitor Parking lot). Trailer parking location subject to change as required. There will be NO trailer parking permitted in Lot 2.

DEFINITIONS:
a) An exhibit is a dairy animal qualifying for an entry into a class as specified in the class list. All registered animals, 75% or higher in purity, whether owned by one person or by more than one person (individually or jointly), are considered to be the production of the farm or breeding unit on which they are maintained. All exhibits must be registered in the name of the exhibitor in accordance with the by-laws of their respective breed association.
b) An exhibitor is any breeder or firm which presents animals for official placing by a judge at the time specified by the fair/exhibition for judging. Any exhibitor in making entry by so doing, agrees to be governed by the regulations.
c) When the word progeny is used, it is to be defined as referring to the direct descendant, as son or daughter.

DISEASED ANIMALS
In the interest of maintaining a high standard of animal health, all livestock is subject to inspection upon arrival and throughout the duration of the show by officers of the Health of Animals Branch and/or veterinarians employed by the Calgary Stampede. If evidence of an infectious or contagious disease is discovered, the owner of the infected animal shall be required to remove the animal from the premises. Animals infected with mange, ringworm, warts, pinkeye, or any other infections will be treated with instructions from the Health of Animals Branch Veterinarians or on order from the management of the Calgary Stampede.
