World Stock Dog Championship presented by Halliburton
Talk about four-legged focus! The annual World Stock Dog Championship, presented by Halliburton, is one of the most compelling events of the Calgary Stampede Stock Show, with these startlingly agile and intelligent dogs moving three sheep through a challenging course and into a pen in less than four minutes.
Trainer Dale Montgomery of Maple Creek, Sask., has seen his name engraved on the Stampede’s bronze trophy five times in the first 11 years of competition after Tex, his six-year-old canine, took home his second title in three years in 2008.
This event is sanctioned by the United States Border Collie Handlers Association and the Alberta Stock Dog Association. The competition will start with 60 entries, but only the top 15 will advance to the championship final round on Monday, July 12 at the Saddledome.
It’s doggone challenging — and fun.
