Alberta Fed Beef Expo 2009

Pens of five market-ready steers and heifers will be judged on conformation and consistency, and sold on Friday, July 10 at Olds Auction Mart in conjunction with the first round of the Stampede’s International Livestock Auctioneer Championships.

The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion pens of steers and heifers will then be transported to Stampede Park and sold under the Big Top on Saturday, July 11 by the finalists in the auctioneers’ competition.

PLEASE NOTE NEW RULE: All pens of cattle arriving at Olds Auction Mart, Olds must have an "A FORM" as well as a manifest. The A Form and manifest must be consistent, i.e. if the farm name is on the A Form, the farm name is required on the manifest.

Two classes will be offered - steers and heifers. A maximum of fifty pens will be accepted (no restrictions on the number of entries per exhibitor).

The entry fee is $250.00 per pen of five. Two classes will be offered - steers and heifers. A maximum of fifty pens will be accepted (no restrictions on the number of entries per exhibitor). The completed entry form must be in the Agriculture Entries Office July 3, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. Entries not complying with the requirements will be rejected. All entry fees will be allocated to prize money, G.S.T. not applicable. Facsimile entries accompanied by Credit Card information will be accepted. Payment can also be arranged with your auction market representative.

NOTE: ALL ENTRIES BEING PRESENTED FOR SLAUGHTER AT CARGILL FOODS FACILITY MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS:
1) All pens of cattle arriving at Olds Auction Mart, Olds must have an "A FORM" and a MANAFEST. The A Form and manifest must be consistent, i.e. if the farm name is on the A Form, the farm name is required on manifest as well.
2) A signed prohibited feed affidavit must accompany each entry.
3) Each entry must have a CCIA (Canadian Cattle Identification Agency) tag

Prize Money & Awards + View Details

The Grand Champion Pen of Steers and Heifers will each receive $2,500 cash plus the proceeds of the Sale, courtesy of Schering-Plough Animal Health (Nuflor).

Reserve Champion Pen of Steers will receive $1,500 plus the proceeds of the Sale, courtesy of

Reserve Champion Pen of Heifers will receive $1,500 plus the proceeds of the Sale, courtesy of Calgary Stampede.

Third Place Pen of Steers and Heifers will receive $1,000 plus the proceeds of the Sale.

Schering-Plough Animal Health (Nuflor) will present the Grand Champion Pens with a custom designed belt buckle.

______ will present the Reserve Champion Pen of Steers with a custom designed belt buckle.Calgary Stampede will present the Reserve Champion Pen of Heifers with a custom designed belt buckle. All Champions will receive a Calgary Stampede calf hide banner.

Non-Winner Draw The Alberta Livestock Dealers & Order Buyers Association will donate $500 for steers in a non-winner exhibitor draw. T.E.A.M., The Electric Auction Market, Calgary Stockyards will donate $500 for heifers in a non-winner exhibitor draw. Draws will take place immediately after the Champion Pens are announced.

Rules and Regulations + View Details

Regulations:: SPECIAL NOTE:There will be no distict color ruling for the 2008 Fed Beef Competition.
1. Cattle must be received and off feed and water by 9:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Olds Auction Mart, Olds.
2. Cattle will be weighed at time of judging.
3. Cattle will be evaluated on a live basis only.
4. Clipping and fitting will not be allowed. Grooming to remove manure, mud and bedding is acceptable. Any animals found to be clipped will not be allowed to show or sell.
5. Cattle will be judged as loose pens of five.
6. The cattle will be judged by a panel of industry-related judges.
7. All cattle (except the four champion pens) will be sold Friday, July 11 at 11:00 AM at Olds Auction Mart, Olds prior to the preliminary round of the International Livestock Auctioneer Competition with the exhibitor retaining all proceeds. 8. Weight used in judging will be considered sale weight.
9. A commission of 5% will be charged on Grand and Reserve pens of cattle to offset promotion and advertising expenses.
10. The Committee reserves the right to decide on any point not covered by the above regulations. Violation of any regulation will result in disqualification and forfeiture of entry fee.
