Metal Art Showcase 2009

The Metal Art Showcase is an increasingly popular spinoff of the World Championship Blacksmiths’ Competition.

Blacksmith artists from around the world are invited to submit unique pieces of metal art, created by using traditional forging methods and techniques. The artistic side of forging is drawing the competitors, too, and artists from as far away as Australia send in their submissions for a shot at $4,000 in prize money and to auction their work to the public.

A popular crossover between the blacksmiths’ Olympics and the artisan displays is the Potluck Artistic Forging class, back by popular demand. Audiences can watch competitors forge an item spontaneously from scrap metal pieces, and then enter the exhibits into competition in the Metal Art Showcase, held at the Palomino Room in the BMO Centre.

The blacksmiths’ art can be viewed at 6pm July 4 at the Metal Art Showcase. The showcase ends with the live Metal Art Auction, on July 4 at 7 pm, with proceeds to benefit youth development in the industry.
