MISSION STATEMENT The Calgary Stampede and the Miniature Horse Show Committee are committed to planning and delivering the annual Miniature Horse Show to a standard worthy of Canadian National Status, while simultaneously ensuring that administration of the show is efficient and effective. To achieve the foregoing objective, reliance is placed upon Calgary Stampede policies and guidelines as well as AMHA rules. Accordingly, exhibitors/participants must familiarize themselves with the governing policies, guidelines and rules. It is an expectation that all exhibitors/participants will comply with entry and substitution deadlines, move in and release requirements, shot box requirements and be on time for the pre-show measuring of horses. It goes without saying that all persons, in any way involved with the Miniature Horse Show, are expected to at all times, conduct themselves in a courteous manner.
1. A combined point score based on the placings of each judge will determine the Canadian National Champion. In the event of a tie, the call judge will make the final decision.
2. Special attention is called to the Calgary Stampede General Rules.
3. Exhibitors are responsible for carrying their own liability insurance (See liability - General Rules).
4. Exhibitors must ascertain at what time judging will take place; and no complaint or appeal based upon the statement that the judges have overlooked the exhibits will be considered by the Calgary Stampede.
5. Due to limited show time, there will be no gate holds.
6. It is compulsory for exhibitors to wear the official show numbers supplied by the Calgary Stampede.
7. Miniature Horse exhibitors who do not adhere to the Miniature Horse release time will automatically forfeit their prize money and may result in corrective action such as refusal of entry, suspension, or other action as may be deemed appropriate.
8. Out of town exhibitors who are arriving early may contact the Calgary Stampede Agriculture Office at (403) 261-0162 regarding local Bales & Breakfast stalling facilities.
9. Exhibitors canceling their entries shall forfeit their entry fee except when a certificate of disability is issued by a qualified veterinarian. The certificate of disability must be received by the Agriculture Entries Office by Monday, July 13, 2009 in order to receive an entry fee refund.
10. General show rules are governed by the AMHA. For specific rules and ring procedures, please refer to the 2009 Official Show Rules of the American Miniature Horse Association.
11. All AMHA shows are open to any AMHA registered horses whose exhibitor is able to prove valid registration. To enter an AMHA approved show, the exhibitor must use the complete name and number of the animal as it is shown on the horse's registration certificate. Entry forms must be completely filled out and will not be accepted by the show management until all information has been listed, copies of both sides of the registration paper received, all fees paid and the entry form signed by the exhibitor.
12. Horses may be shown if the exhibitor furnishes proof that the registration application is pending in the AMHA office prior to the show. The Show Chairman shall accept as proof only a signed statement from the AMHA office or oral verification from the AMHA office to the Show Chairman that registration is pending.
13. A 2009 amateur number must be purchased from the AMHA and is required where applicable and must be listed on the entry form. In order to show in an amateur class, the horse must be owned or leased by the amateur individually or jointly, the amateur's family, or solely owned corporation, ranch or farm. AMHA amateur applications will be available for purchase at the show office. All amateur exhibitors must provide the relationship to the owner.
14. AOTE Amateur Owned Trained and Exhibited classes will be offered in 2009. The horse exhibited AOTE must be trained, conditioned, groomed and shown by the AOTE or a non professional family member in all divisions entered. A designated AOTE horse must show under the AOTE guidelines one calendar year starting on January 1 regardless of the class entered. Failure to abide by the AOTE rules once AOTE horse has begun showing will result in penalties. For complete AOTE rules, refer to the 2009 AMHA Show Rules.
15. No miniature horse shall exceed 34 inches in height at the withers. Weanlings must not exceed 30 inches. Yearlings must not exceed 32 inches. Two year olds must not exceed 33 inches. All horses must meet the height qualification for each class and will be measured at the base of the last hairs of the main.
16. The age of the horse is determined from January 1st of the year in which they were foaled.
17. Conduct by an exhibitor, trainer, owner, or immediate family member of an unsportsmanlike, abusive or detrimental nature will not be tolerated by the show management, including but not limited to threatening or intimidating conduct, physical, verbal or written toward any show official. Any person(s) guilty of such conduct should be reported immediately to show management by the judge, steward, or show committee member. The show management will suspend the offender for the duration of the show.
18. Protests:
a) Any protest must be made in writing to the show manager (Janette Bamford) or the ring steward no later than one hour after the completion of the last class of the show. The protest shall be accompanied by a $100 deposit, which shall only be returned to the protestor in the event the protest is sustained. Please refer to the current AMHA Show Rules for a complete list of protest regulations.
b) Exhibitors may not protest to the judge directly or by interference, on the placing of any horse. Any person guilty of such conduct will be excused from the show and forfeit any premiums received at that show, and the right to show in any additional classes at the show. No entry fees will be returned.
19. Horses eligible and entered must show unless excused by the manager or judge.
20. Harness Championships are limited to first and second place winners from classes in that division. Any horse competing is eligible to be Grand or Reserve Champion. In the event that one horse qualifies with different drivers, the exhibitor must decide which driver will show the entry in the championship class.
21. Liberty Class: Horses will be judged beginning when the halter is removed until caught by the exhibitor. Time of liberty shall be 1.5 minutes; time to catch shall be maximum 1.5 minutes or will result in disqualification. Music is required and a labelled cd and must be handed in when the horse is measured. All liberty horses must be at least one (1) year old.
22. There will be no cross entries between any Country and Single Pleasure Driving classes.
23. LORD STERLING CUP - Open to teams of two Miniature Horses with a four wheeled vehicle. Points are accumulated over both shows. The presentation of the Lord Sterling Cup will take place during the Miniature Horse Show.. In case of a tie on total points, a tie-breaker judging system will be used. The purpose of this class is to demonstrate the general utility of the Miniature as a driving horse simulating work conditions. Prize money and The Lord Sterling Cup will be awarded to the hitch accumulating the most points over both shows. Description - Hitches to enter the ring at a working trot. At the direction of the Ring Steward, hitches shall then be exhibited at a flat footed walk and a working trot in both directions of the ring. Upon completion of the required rail work, hitches will then be required to work individually through the following pattern: back to dock, swing left and right, and drive a figure eight. Points will be awarded as follow: Rail work - 50 points; Performance - 40 points; Turnout - 10 points.
24. Amateur and Youth are required to submit a copy of their current card with horse show entries.
