Often compared to watching an intricate dance, the pure athleticism and instinct of a skilled cutting horse is breathtaking to behold. Beginning as a competition between working cowboys for bragging rights as to who had the most “cowy” horse, the cutting horse competition has evolved into one of the largest and most exciting equine events in North America. In the contest arena, the art of the cutting horse comes alive in a classic test of intelligence, training, breeding and skill. In competition, the cutting horse and rider must work together as a team in demonstrating their cattle handling skills. The Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Competition is a participating event in the National Cutting Horse Association 6666 Ranch World Series of Cutting, bringing together the most skilled horses and riders from across Canada and the United States as they vie for berths in the NCHA World Finals.

NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER MONDAY, JUNE 22, 2009 AT 4:00 pm POSTMARKED OR OTHERWISE.

The completed entry form must be received in the Agriculture Entries Office by the listed date. All entries must be accompanied with copies of the NCHA membership cards of both owner and rider, as well as a copy of the registration papers for all registered horses, as per NCHA Standing Rules 2 and 3. If entered online, a copy of the papers must be sent to the entries office by mail, fax or electronically. Entries not complying with the requirements will be rejected. The entry charge portion of the fee will be allocated to prize money (GST not applicable).

Telephone entries will not be accepted. Faxed and online entries will be accepted if accompanied by credit card information. U.S. ENTRIES MUST BE PAID BY CREDIT CARD OR MONEY ORDER IN CANADIAN FUNDS.

Youth: Bill Collins Youth Excellence Award ($1000 Scholarship). Champion & Reserve Buckles will also be given.

Allocation of Prize Money will be:
First Go: 15%
Second Go: 15%
Finals: 70%
Aggregate score of first and second go rounds will determine advancement to the Finals. Prize money and awards will be determined solely by scores in the Finals round.
Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Competition Buckles will be awarded to the Champion of the Open and Non Pro classes.
NCHA Bronze trophy will be awarded to Champion of the Open and Non Pro classes.

Rules and Regulations + View Details

Regulations:: Open & Non Pro Entries:

1. NCHA Rules and Regulations shall apply.
2. Special attention is called to the Calgary Stampede General Rules and Conditions.
3. The Cutting Horse Competition will consist of TWO GO ROUNDS with a FINAL. Calgary Stampede reserves the right to advance 80% only to the Second Go Round. Aggregate scores of the First and Second Go Rounds will determine advancement to the Finals. The top third of entries will advance to the Finals, to a maximum of 12 plus ties.
4. Prize money and awards will be determined solely by scores in the Finals round.
5. There will be 3 head of cattle per cut in the First and Second go rounds. There will be 4 head of cattle per cut in the Finals round.
6. The horse, rider and owner must be declared at the time of entry, as per NCHA Standing Rules 2 and 3. NCHA Non-Professional Rules apply.
7. NCHA Adjusted Monitor System (3 Judges) will be followed.
8. The Draw will be made on Thursday, July 2, 2009 according to NCHA Rules. The draw order will be available on line or call the Agriculture Administration Office at (403) 261-0313 after 4 p.m. on July 2, 2009.
9. All disputes will be dealt with by the Western Performance Horse Committee and the Committee's decision in all matters shall be final.
10.If an entry is cancelled, all fees will be forfeited. The only exceptions permitted are: a) In the case of a disabling injury to the horse, the contestant must furnish a certificate from a qualified Veterinarian declaring the horse disabled and unable to compete. Such certificate must be in the hands of the Show Management prior to the start of the competition. b) In the case of a disabling injury to the rider, or serious sickness or death in his/ her family, Show Management must be advised prior to the start of the competition.

12. NCHA/CCHA Rule #35 will be strictly enforced.

**Please note there will be NO unauthorized persons allowed in the hitching ring / loping area of the Big Top. Exhibitor Badges must be visible at all times, no exceptions will be made.**

Youth Class:
Each competitor must follow the following general guidelines of the cutting competition as well as the specific guidelines governing the youth competition:
1. The Youth Cutting will be open to any eligible youth under NCHA/CCHA rules.
2. Youth are encouraged to show the horse that he/she has shown for most of the current season.
3. The horse, rider and owner must be declared at time of entry. This horse must be used throughout the entire competition.
4. Youth will compete in three (3) go rounds. Awards will be made based on total aggregate score over the three go rounds.
5. No prize money will be awarded in the Youth Division. The Champion will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for the Bill Collins Youth Excellence Award. The winner must advise the Calgary Stampede of the institution that the funds are to be paid to on their behalf. Buckles will be awarded to the Champion and Reserve Champion.
6. Please note that an executed waiver is required for complete entry. If applicant is under 18 years of age, the waiver must be signed by a guardian.

ARRIVAL/PARKING INFORMATION (Okotoks Agricultural Society):

For location of and directions to the Okotoks Agricultural Society, please follow the link . Parking is readily available, as well as overnight and RV parking and stalling facilities. For more information on accommodations and stabling options, follow the links at the end of this section.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION (Calgary Stampede):

Entry to Stampede Park is via the Sunshine Gate. Competitors will be staged in the Saddledome Lot as per previous years. Please follow the instructions of the parking attendant. There will be no stalling available at Stampede Park.

PARKING INFORMATION (Calgary Stampede):

Daily parking passes for the Saddledome parking lot will be provided to competitors. Please note there is no overnight parking or stalling on Stampede Park.

STAMPEDE ENTRY:

All competitors advancing to the finals will be required to purchase an Agriculture Exhibitor Badge at a cost of $21.00. All competitors can pre-purchase passes on the entry form for themselves and for all assistants.

The Agriculture Exhibitor Badge will be recognized as entry to Stampede Park at all walk through gates for the entire Calgary Stampede, July 3-12, 2009, and will grant general admission to rush seating for Rodeo, Chuckwagon and Grandstand performances. The badge must be purchased on the entry form for a fee of $21.00 per badge (GST included).
