Stampede Working Cow Horse Classic - 2009

ELITE WESTERN RIDER AWARD

Celebrating the athleticism of the horse, this competition has roots in the horse training traditions of the California vaqueros, as far back as the 1700s. The competition includes a reined work pattern, where the horse maneuvers through a series of maneuvers including figure eights, straight runs, lead changes, sliding stops and 360 degree spins. The most challenging and exciting part of the competition is the cow work – where the horse must control the movements of a single steer at a full out run, heading it off and turning it both ways along the fence, then bringing it into the centre of the arena to circle once in each direction. The Working Cow Horse Classic features finished “bridle” horses advanced in their training, as well as younger horses shown in the traditional hackamore.

All late entries are subject to an additional charge of $150.00 per horse per class and are not eligible for competitor give aways. No entries postmarked or otherwise will be accepted after this deadline.

This competition will be run under National Reined Cow Horse Association rules. All exhibitors and owners must be members of the NRCHA. Any entry received without a NRCHA membership number will be rejected. Non-Pros must abide by NRCHA ownership rules as stipulated in NRCHA rules 2.1.10 through 2.1.16. The Western Performance Horse Committee reserves the right to resolve issues not covered by the rules. All competition times are tentative and subject to change; any changes will be posted to this website.

Non-Pro Bridle: $2000 Added money:
The Non-Pro Bridle entry fee is $300 per entry which includes a cattle charge of $70, office charge of $72 and NRCHA fee $8. Total add-back is $150. Non Pros must attach to their entry legal documents to prove ownership such as a copy of the bill of sale, or the registration papers for their horse as defined in NRCHA rule 2.1.16. If entered on-line, these papers may be mailed, faxed or sent electronically. Horses must be shown in a full bridle.

Open Bridle: $4000 Added money:
The Open Bridle class entry fee is $350 per entry which includes a cattle charge of $70, office charge of $72, and NRCHA fee $8. Total add-back is $200. If entered on-line, these papers may be mailed, faxed or sent electronically. Horses must be shown in a full bridle.

Open Hackamore: $4000 Added money: The Open Hackamore class entry fee is $350 per entry which includes a cattle charge of $70, office charge of $72 and NRCHA fee $8. Total Add-back is $200. This class is open to horses 5 years of age and under (as of January 1, 2009) that have never been shown in a bridle or two-rein down the fence at any judged classes or events with the exception of horse sales. Proof of age of horse is required: registration papers or vet certificate required. If entered on-line, these papers may be mailed, faxed or sent electronically.

Novice Non-Pro Jackpot: The limited Novice Non-Pro class entry fee is $100 per entry and is a class held within the Non-Pro Bridle class. All entrants must be competing in Non-Pro Bridle to be eligible to enter. NRCHA fee $8 add back $92. There are no additional cattle charges for this class. All competitors must have NRCHA life-time earnings under $7500 as per the NRCHA rules and a valid Novice Non-Pro designation on membership card and a current application on file in the NRCHA office.

Limited Open Bridle Jackpot: The Limited Open Bridle class entry fee is $200 per entry and is a class held within the Open Bridle class. All entrants must be competing in Open Bridle to be eligible to enter. NRCHA fee $8 add back $192. There are no additional cattle charges for this class. All competitors must have NRCHA lifetime earnings under $15,000 as per NRCHA rules and a Horse Show Limited Open designation on membership card and a current application on file in the NRCHA office.

Limited Open Hackamore Jackpot: The Limited Open Hackamore class entry fee is $200 per entry and is a class held within the Open Hackamore class. All entrants must be competing in Open Hackamore to be eligible to enter. NRCHA fee $8 add back $192 There are no additional cattle charges for this class. All competitors must have NRCHA lifetime earnings under $15,000 as per NRCHA rules.

GST is not applicable. The completed entry form must be received in the Agriculture Entries Office by the listed dates. Entries not complying with the requirements will be rejected. It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that their entries comply with the NRCHA rules. NRCHA Rule 1.1.7 "Any rider participating in a class or division in which he/she is not eligible (or the horse he/she is riding is not eligible)will be placed on probation for a minimum of 30 days for the first offense. Second and subsequent offense will result in a 90-day suspension and a fine of $500. When a horse/rider is found to be ineligible, the earnings and awards are forfeited to the NRCHA."

Total added money is $10,000:
Open Bridle: $4000 added money plus $200 add-back per entry
Open Hackamore: $4000 added money plus $200 add-back per entry
Non-Pro Bridle: $2000 added money plus $150 add-back per entry

All jackpot classes will be paid out in compliance with rule 7.2. The Payout schedule complies with NRCHA rule 7.2 for approved shows whose earnings count towards year-end NRCHA standings.

In addition to cash, the Champions and Reserve Champions in the Non-Pro Bridle, Open Hackamore and Open Bridle classes will receive trophy buckles. The aggregate score in two goes determines Final payout and awards. Payout will be made in accordance with the NRCHA rule 7.2.
In addition to cash, the Champions and Reserve Champions in the Novice Non-Pro Bridle and Limited Open Hackamore and the Limited Open Bridle classes will receive trophies.
All ties will be resolved in accordance with the NRCHA rules.

Rules and Regulations + View Details

Regulations:

1. Special attention is called to the Calgary Stampede General Rules and Conditions. 2. Order of first go will be decided by draw on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 12:00 noon. The order of the second go will be the reverse placings of the first go-round. All ties will be resolved in accordance with the NRCHA rules.
3. The competition will consist of a two go-round aggregate.
4. Awards will be presented at the end of each class on Sunday July 12, 2009. All prize monies will be mailed to the owner of the horses entered.
5. Competitors are requested to travel together as much as possible to reduce the number of trailers/parking.
6. The Horse, Rider and Owner must be declared at the time of entry. Rider and Owner must be members of NRCHA. NRCHA Rules will be in effect. This competition is open to horses of any breed registry and non-registered/grade horses.
7. Competitor information packages will be available for pick up from the Agriculture office after noon July 9 or can be picked upon arrival on July 10 at the Sunshine entrance gate to the show grounds. For alternative pick-up or delivery arrangements please call (403) 261-0127.
8. There will be zero tolerance of any inhumane treatment of horses or cattle while in the show arena or on the show grounds. Any such action will be cause for disqualification. Inhumane treatment includes, but is not limited to, excessive jerking, pulling, kicking, slapping or whipping.
9. All complaints and protests will be handled in compliance with NRCHA rule 14.2.
10. If entry is cancelled, all fees will be forfeited. Substitutions will be allowed for the following reasons only:

In the case of a disabling injury to the horse, the contestant must furnish a certificate from a qualified Veterinarian declaring the horse disabled and unable to compete. Such certificate must be in the hands of the Show Management prior to the start of the contest.
In the case of a disabling injury to the rider, or serious sickness or death in his/her family, Show Management must be advised in writing prior to the start of the contest.
The decision of the Western Performance Horse Committee is final.

11. Non Pro riders must comply with NRCHA ownership rules 2.1.10 through 2.1.16 and submit with their entry, legal documents to prove ownership of their horse in accordance with the NRCHA definition of "Non Pro".

12. **Please note there will be NO unauthorized persons allowed in the Hitching Ring area of the Big Top. Exhibitor Badges must be visible at all times, no exceptions will be made.**

ARRIVAL INFORMATION (Calgary Stampede):

Entry to Stampede Park is via the Sunshine Gate. Competitors will be staged in the Saddledome Lot as per previous years. Please follow the instructions of the parking attendant. There will be no stalling available at Stampede Park.

PARKING INFORMATION (Calgary Stampede):

Daily parking passes for the Saddledome parking lot will be provided to competitors. Please note there is no overnight parking or stalling on Stampede Park.

STAMPEDE ENTRY:

All competitors advancing to the finals will be required to purchase an Agriculture Exhibitor Badge at a cost of $21.00. All competitors can pre-purchase passes on the entry form for themselves and for all assistants.

The Agriculture Exhibitor Badge will be recognized as entry to Stampede Park at all walk through gates for the entire Calgary Stampede, July 3-12, 2009, and will grant general admission to rush seating for Rodeo, Chuckwagon and Grandstand performances. The badge must be purchased on the entry form for a fee of $21.00 per badge (GST included).
