All Canada Sheep Classic

The All Canada Sheep Classic Show and Sale is a gathering place for more than 50 top breeders from across the country to showcase, exchange information and conduct business on world-class sheep and genetics.
More than 300 head of sheep will compete for top honours in their breed, and for Supreme titles, from Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, July 12 at the Victoria Pavilion.
The competition includes the market lamb class, fleece competition and the Calgary Stampede Katahdin Hair Sheep Show. The All Canada Sheep Classic will culminate in a sale of all the sheep on Monday, July 13.
The Classic will be hosting the Alberta and Canadian Sheep Breeders Associations for the first time since 2001.

ALL CANADA SHEEP CLASSIC PUREBRED CLASSES: Entries MUST be received in the Calgary Stampede Agriculture Entries office by the entry deadline. There will be no Purebred entries accepted (postmarked or otherwise) after April 30, 2009.

MARKET LAMB CLASS: Entries deadline extended to May 28, 2009. Entries MUST be received in the Calgary Stampede Agriculture Entries office by the entry deadline. There will be no Market Lamb entries accepted (postmarked or otherwise) after May 28, 2009.

Facsimiled entries will be accepted if accompanied by a credit card information.

ALL CANADA SHEEP CLASSIC Substitutions must be submitted in writting to the Agriculture entries office at a cost of $10 per animal substituted; fees payable at time of substitution. ALL CANADA SHEEP CLASSIC Substitutions within the same class are allowed to a maximum of two animals per breed, . No substitutions will be accepted after 4:00pm MST June 19, 2009.

Lamb classes entries may be substituted at no cost, but are included in the total number of substitutions per breed that a breeder may make.

Prize Money & Awards + View Details

Prize money will be paid to all qualified breeds ( North Country Cheviot, Dorper, Columbia, Southdown, Hampshire, Suffolk) showing at Stampede 2009. Note: There is no minimum number of entries for a breed to have its own show but new sheep breeds must have a separate show for a minimum of two consecutive years before being awarded prize money. There must be at least two breeding units with a total of 15 animals represented in each breed in order to qualify for prize money. The All Canada Sheep Classic will be considered the first of these two years. When a qualified breed does not meet these requirements, the committee reserves the right to show for ribbons only.

Rules and Regulations + View Details

Regulations:: 1. Special attention is called to the Calgary Stampede Rules and Conditions. The rules and conditions will be strictly enforced by the Sheep Committee.

2. ORIGINAL REGISTRATION PAPERS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION UPON ARRIVAL. All entries will be strictly inspected. Sheep showing ticks must be removed from the premises.

3. All Canada Sheep Classic Show and Sale is open to members of the Canada Sheep Breeders' Association in good standing. EXHIBITORS/ CONSIGNORS FOR THE ALL CANADA SHEEP CLASSIC SHOW AND SALE ARE ALLOWED TO ENTER ONE RAM FOR EACH EWE ENTERED, but the ram and the ewe may be of different purebred breeds. There is no restriction on multiple exhibits in any classes with the exception of Breeder's Flock and Get of Sire. Single entry only in group class. All exhibits must be owned by and registered as purebred in the name of the exhibitor. All animals must be identified by CSIP/ ATQ number tag (as per CSBA constitution #16.6) and tattoos. All animals requiring tattoos must be legibly tattooed. Animals with illegible tattoos will not be allowed to show.

4. Animals must show in order to sell and all animals shown in purebred classes must be offered for sale, unless disqualified for sale due to injury or sickness.

5. All animals will be subject to a check by a sifting committee. Sheep in poor body condition will be sifted from competition and sale and must be removed from Calgary Stampede property between 9:00pm and 11:00pm, Thursday July 9, 2009.

6. The following breeds must be shown in short fleece (1" for summer show): Canadian Arcott, Border Cheviot, Charollais, Clun Forest, Dorper, Dorset, Hampshire, Ile de France, North Country Cheviot, Outaouais Arcott, Oxford Down, Polypay, Rideau Arcott, Shropshire, Southdown, Suffolk and Texel. Other breeds may be shown in short or full fleece at the discretion of the exhibitor.

7. For the purpose of the Classifications a "Breeding Unit" is defined as follows: In each classification where the same or common interests are involved in more than one breeding operation such operations are considered as one Breeding Unit. In all cases where there is any doubt that more than one breeding unit exists, the interpretation shall be that only one breeding unit exists. The responsibility of proof of separation of breeding units shall rest with the exhibitor(s).

8. Exhibitors are responsible for wearing the correct show number in the show ring.

9. Sheep must have feed and water available to them at all times while at the Calgary Stampede.

10. No muzzles are permitted.

11. Dress Code is black pants and white shirt.

Other two pairs of temporary incisors (milk teeth) must be firmly in place. For the 2009 All Canada Sheep Classic, all purebred exhibits must be born the property of the exhibitor

2. EWE LAMBS - Full mouth milk teeth must be in place. Born the property of the exhibitor. Lambs will be divided into splits determined by DOB (September 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008 and January 1, 2009 or later). Classes larger than 20 will be further split.
Ribbons to 3rd place. Prize money to 5th place in each split.

3. GRAND AND RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION EWE - 1st and 2nd winners in ewe classes eligible.
Ribbons only.
Banner to Grand Champion. Belt buckle to Reserve Champion.

8. BREEDER'S FLOCK - (Group bred by exhibitor). For the All Canada Sheep Classic, all Breeder's Flock entries will consist of a group of four animals; one ram and three females. Each animal must have been exhibited in one of the above classes. All animals in a group to be of one breed.
Belt buckle for Champion Flock.
Ribbons to 3rd place. Prize money to 5th.

9. PAIR OF HAMPSHIRE FEMALES - No entry fee. No prize money. T.W. Hebson Memorial Trophy.

10. MARKET LAMB - entry deadline May 28, 2009. Classes will be split according to weight. Market Lamb classes are NOT required to be born the property of or bred by the exhibitor. Market Lamb entries are NOT elegible for entry in the All Canada Sheep Sale.
CSBA membership is not required for the Market Lamb class.
Minimum weight - 90lbs; maximum weight - 130lbs.
Ribbons to third, Jackpot payout to fifth.

11. BEST FLOCK - The Birks Trophy will be presented by the Calgary Stampede. No Entry fee. No prize money.

12. BEST LONG WOOL - The J.L. Quance Memorial Trophy will be presented by the Calgary Stampede. No entry fee. No prize money.

13. BEST SHORT WOOL/HAIR - The Robert W. Hall Memorial Trophy will be presented by the Calgary Stampede. No entry fee. No prize money. Hampshire, Katahdin, Suffolk and North Country Cheviot are not eligible to show in this class.

14. BEST HAMPSHIRE - (Male or Female) - The F.C. Manning Memorial Trophy will be presented by the Calgary Stampede. No entry fee. No prize money.

15. BEST SUFFOLK (Male or Female) - The F.C. Manning Memorial Trophy will be presented by the Calgary Stampede. No entry fee. No prize money.

16. BEST NORTH COUNTRY CHEVIOT (Male or Female) - The Barker Family Trophy. No entry fee. No prize money.

17. BEST GET OF SIRE - Bill Stevens Memorial Trophy donated by Pat Hoole.

Commision is 15%
An exhibitor may put a reserve bid on their animals but must be in writing and submitted to the auctioneer before the animal is in the sale ring. If the selling price does not bring the stated reserve bid then the contributor will pay commission on the reserve . There will be NO changing of the reserve while the animal is in the ring.
All animals will sell and be transferred to the highest bidder . By- bidding ( or buy backs ) will not be allowed.
